Recognising and Responding to Abuse & Neglect
Protection of Vulnerable Adults / Safeguarding Adults

Initial training taking a full day session or Refresher training annually in a half day session Qualified Trainer providing a course originally designed by:
East Berkshire Adult protection Committee

Learning Objectives for candidates who attend

  • Be able to recognise signs & Symptoms of abuse
  • Define who are vulnerable adults, types of abuse and agree a consistent definition of abuse
  • Identify the importance of prevention of abuse
  • Know the correct actions to take following the identification of possible abuse including correct reporting & recording procedures.
  • Describe the procedures & guidelines for responding to the abuse of vulnerable adults
  • Link abuse procedures to key legislation including local whistle blowing procedures & multi agency policy & procedures
  • Ensure staff have a greater understanding of each other’s roles within respective agencies and recognise the importance of working together and sharing information.
  • Describe stress factors that may lead to abuse of vulnerable adults.
  • Case studies discussed and explained to help understanding
